The exceptional Glass Blowing experience offered by Colin Hawkins is perfect as a one-off gift for someone special or a unique memorable treat for yourself. Glass blowing is an amazing and ancient craft unlike anything else. The experience offers either one to one or two to one personal tutelage with myself. Experiences are kept small and personal to ensure you get the most out of your time here. The experience lasts an hour and a half (for one person) and in that time you will learn all about the hotshop where the glass is made, and have a little look around the rest of the studio to get an idea of what it takes to make a piece come to life. You start your session by getting comfortable with how the molten glass moves by making a keyring. This item shows you basic colour application and how to manage the glass at high temperatures. With the keyring mastered you then move on to the paperweight which involves more complicated techniques. You will have to manage and shape the glass in the reheating chamber and then go on to using the tools in the bench, many of which haven't changed since the roman times. Finally with these two items successfully achieved you will move onto a blown item of your choice. This final item will incorporate all the skills learnt on the previous items plus, potentially, slightly more complicated colour application, manipulation of the material and of course, blowing the glass!
