THE FRESH AIR SCHOLARSHIP
Keeping the art of UK glassmaking alive and relevant is core to LoCo Glass, and was instrumental in the creation of the LoCo Glass Fresh Air Scholarship. A bi-annual scholarship created specifically for emergent glassmakers to harbour UK talent, Fresh Air is one of the few to give new glassmakers allocated time in the studio to produce their own work for exhibition. Truly altruistic, the scholarship enables the individual to develop within the supportive environment of the studio before ultimately moving on, with the necessary skills and wherewithal, to create their own glassmaking business.
A Bournemouth University graduate who specialised in glass, Bliss Hill was blissfully happy when she was awarded the LoCo Glass ‘Fresh Air’ scholarship.
“This scholarship is incredibly special. It has given me the opportunity to improve my skills and gain practical experience under the guidance of an expert of Colin’s calibre while working on my own pieces which will be exhibited at the end of the two year scholarship. Importantly, it also highlights the business of glass-making.
As a result of the Fresh Air scholarship I am more focussed on producing pieces that inspire but will also have commercial appeal – a very fine path to tread!”
